On 2 May 2006 the Council of Ministers and the EU Parliament reached agreement, in the Mediation Committee, on a proposal for a Regulation covering the application of the Aarhus provisions to the EU institutions (EG Nr 1367/2006). . According to this Regulation, citizens and NGOs can request environmental information from all bodies of the EU Commission as well as of the EU Parliament. These need to respond to the request within 15 days.
On December 13 2007, the EU Commission layed down detailed rules for the application of the Regulation, which can be found here.
Art. 3 (7) of the Aarhus Convention explains, that each Contracting Party should support the implementation of the "Aarhus principles" also in other international agreements with a reference to environmental information.
To provide a guidance to the Contratcing Parties the "Almaty guidelines on promoting the application of the principles of the Aarhus Convention in international forums - PPIF" have been adopted in the frame of the COP 2 in Almaty, May 2005.
