Mediation is a voluntary process with a clear structure, in which the parties to a conflict search for a permanent solution with the support of professional mediators.
Initiation: convincing all parties to the conflict that mediation would benefit them, finding suitable mediators
Preparation: analysing the conflict by means of one-to-one discussions, defining the circle of participants, drafting an agreement on the aim, content, procedure etc. of the mediation process
Realization: spotlighting the diverse interests and needs, obtaining missing information, searching for a solution, reaching a decision
Contract: composing a written mediation contract detailing the results achieved and how these are to be implemented.
Those affected by the conflict: ordinary citizens, lobbyists, politicians and administrators.
