A Delphi survey (also known as a Delphi procedure) is a systematic multistage process in which experts are polled on specific topics.
A questionnaire is sent to recognized experts in a given field, who fill it in. The responses are evaluated; mean values, extremes and variances are listed and sent back to the experts. This feedback enables the experts to compare their own assessment with that of other experts, and to refine their own assessment accordingly. This process often goes through several rounds.
The aim is to achieve a collective opinion that covers both the specific questions set and the spread of the individual experts’ views.
